The picture is a reflection on the Korean Conflict when the Koreans were trapped in a concentration camp and First Sergeant Troy L. Horton (Joe’s father) was standing at the gate as guard. First Sergeant Horton was regular infantry and special forces, served in the Korean Conflict, 1952-1953. In the Vietnam War, he served two tours (1967-1968 and 1969-1970). He ended up being the Advisor to the Alabama Army National Guard; he holds five bronze stars, three purple hearts, and many more could be named. He retired from the military after 24 years of service as a First Sergeant (E-8).

We honor all veterans. We take this service to our service-persons of past and present, very seriously. The rendering of military funeral honors is a way to show the nation’s deep gratitude to those who, in times of war and peace, have faithfully defended the country. This ceremonial paying of respect is the final demonstration a grateful nation can provide to its veterans’ families.

We honor and deeply respect all veterans of the United States Armed Forces. We will be sure that the casualty section of the military is contacted and all necessary authorizations are filled out, faxed, and confirmed to be sure that your deceased loved one is treated with the utmost respect and honor that he or she deserves.
